About Us

We get a lot of people asking “Why are you called Frank’s?”

Frank Ford started Frank’s Transmission in California, after he got out the the Navy back in the late 1960’s.  To be closer to his wife’s family, he moved to Michigan in 1977 and opened Frank’s Transmission in Coldwater.

John Miller started working for Frank’s in 1981 as a high school student, and purchased the business from Frank in 1984.

John & his wife Dawn, built the business at it’s current location in 1999, with the addition of the second building approximately 10 years later.

Frank’s Transmission specializes in transmissions, transfer cases, & differentials, taking pride in the ability to repair and rebuild in house, therefore being able to save the customer money.

Over the years, Frank’s has had many requests to do additional repairs and services from our customers.  Therefore, in 2018, we became Frank’s Transmission & Auto Repair.  We still specialize in transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials, however, we now assist our customers in most of their vehicle repair/service needs.

Our technicians do continuing education throughout the year to stay current on today’s ever changing automotive industry.

At Frank’s Transmission & Auto Repair, we take things on step at a time keeping the customer informed every step of the way.  Good communication is key to great customer service, and happy customers!

I received a thank you card from you this week for giving you my business.  There was a specific reason why I drove 30 miles to bring you that business.
 
I will put forth a reasonable effort to solve problems on my own, especially when the cost of repair could exceed the value of the vehicle.  There is a transmission repair shop within 3 miles of my home.  When I stopped there to talk about the possible causes for my trouble, I listened to the owner tell me how unqualified the other businesses in the area are “when it comes to transmission work”.  He would give me no information.  On the way out of his door, he handed me a small stack of business cards and said “Hey if you know anybody that needs trans repair, give them one of my cards”.  I didn’t take any cards, but I’ve shared his information with many.
Then I stopped @ Frank’s Transmission.  I spoke with John.  I explained everything that I had already done; he took time to share some possibilities with me.  I expressed my appreciation, and then he replied “if you’ve got any more questions, let me know“.  That’s it!  John’s willingness to help me.  That is why my truck came to your business, 30 miles without second gear.  That’s good business!
